Environmental Health & Safety
World-class safety is not a goal but an ongoing commitment
Environmental Health and Safety (EH & S) is an integral part of every work process employed at Colt. Each and every person who works with Colt is involved in making safety part of our culture.
Our superior EH & S performance adds value by increasing productivity, improving schedule performance, encouraging lower employee turnover and reducing overall project cost.
We are committed to creating a zero-incident work environment. This requires acceptance of these principles:
-
EH & S is a value that is inherent in all aspects of our organization – it is not a priority that can be ranked in order of importance.
-
Only projects that are free from incidents can be expected to be consistently productive and profitable. The only acceptable EH & S performance is zero incidents.
-
Every employee must accept and whole-heartedly execute their EH & S responsibility.
-
Through world-class EH &S practices all incidents can be prevented.
-
Everyone who works with Colt sets the stage for zero incidents, by demonstrating their commitment to the EH & S framework. No circumstance will be presented as an exception to this commitment.
A Zero-Incident Environment does not just happen…
...it is a positive result of a culture that actively seeks a world-class safety standard.
Our employees take responsibility for their actions around safety, because they are empowered to make informed decisions. Success depends on genuine commitment, basic operating principles, well-communicated visions and, most importantly, an atmosphere where all employees actively care for each other.
Safety is approached proactively. Positive safety behaviours, as well as potential risks and hazards, are
identified. Coaching or being coached for safety is accepted without threat of personal affront.
If an incident does occur, follow-up to the event is recognized as being as important for the well-being of the individual as is the identification of critical EH & S factors that might not have been recognized before.
In this environment, Zero Incidents becomes the norm. It is the product of the culture and the value system, not of the push to reach zero injuries.
Subcontractors
Everyone who works with Colt must be as dedicated to safety as we are. Our detailed contractor pre-qualification process includes performance evaluations, performance checks and clarifications of responsibilities that will apply for the duration of their employ. Throughout the project, the EH & S performance of subcontractors is rated
monthly through Colt’s loss prevention evaluation procedures.
These procedures help us to select safer contractors, and to identify areas where improvements can be made.
