Drawing on the considerable natural resources in the region a variety of recreational opportunities are available to local residents. The waters of Lake Huron and the St. Clair River offer abundant recreational opportunities including swimming, boating, sailing and fishing. Golfing is very popular; the region has 20 public golf courses. Public, private and semi-private courses offer spectacular golfing on professionally-designed courses at affordable prices.
Sarnia-Lambton boasts an abundance of parks including Canatera Park, Wawanosh Wetlands and The Pinery Provincial Park. The Pinery has 1 000 campsites on more than 6 000 acres, with 10 km of legendary sandy beaches and spectacular windswept dunes (some more than 100 feet high).
The community has always been keenly sports-minded and produces its share of outstanding athletes. Organized hockey, baseball and soccer are an important part of life in Sarnia. Other team sports favoured in the area include curling, lacrosse and rugby.
