Calgary SaddledomeAs the largest city in Alberta with a population of over
1 000 000, Calgary is a prime stop for travelers. Calgary offers a calendar of major events and festivals, and is the gateway to the many Skiingattractions in the Southern Alberta region. Calgary is a young, lively city with much to do for all visitors, and is the youngest populated city in Canada with an average age of 34.  It is the third-largest city in Canada by population and contains the second-highest number of corporate head offices in Canada.

StampedeEach July, Calgary is also home to the famous Calgary Stampede, which is a hugely popular event for this active city.  The Calgary Stampede is undoubtedly Calgary's best-known visitor attraction.

The host city of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games takes pride in its sporting legacy. Canada Olympic Park is a multi-purpose athletic facility designed for skiing, snowboarding, bobsleigh and luge during the winter and mountain biking during the summer. The Pengrowth Saddledome is the home of the NHL's Calgary Flames, as well as hosts countless events and concerts throughout the year. Other attractions, including the Glenbow Museum, Calgary Tower and Eau Claire Market are other great places to visit year-round.

The Calgary Zoo, rated by Attractions Canada as the top outdoor site in the country, features more than 1 100 animals from around the world and an ever-growing portfolio of innovative exhibitions, which allows guests to get up close and personal with grizzly bears, moose and wolves. Life-sized dinosaur models lurk in the badlands of the Prehistoric Park, and the more genteel setting of the botanical park includes a butterfly garden.

Climate

Unique phenomena called a Chinook wind (Snow Eater) can raise temperatures in Calgary more than 20 degrees in one day, turning winter days into spring.  Although the mountain areas receive significant amounts of snow in the winter, Calgary often receives only moderate snowfall.

Calgary is a four-season playground with professional sport teams, world-class winter resorts and internationally renowned wilderness all within easy reach of this vibrant metropolitan city.
