Since 2000, Colt Engineering has been the proud Corporate Sponsor of the Rodeo Stock Awards at the Calgary Stampede – The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
In the sport of rodeo it is extremely important to have the best stock available for the contestants, because 50 per cent of a rider’s score in the bucking events is determined by the animal’s performance. The cowboy is actually hoping to draw a tough competing animal because this helps him advance to Championship Sunday and potentially win $100 000.
Cowboys receive most of the glory in rodeo, but the Calgary Stampede Stock Awards pay tribute to the four-legged superstars who also display unique talent and athleticism. Colt Engineering sponsors the StockChampions, which includes sponsorship of the Daily High Stock Winners and the Championship Stock Awards.
The Daily High Point Stock Winners – each day the bucking horses (Saddle Bronc and Bareback Bronc) and Bull that carry the winning ride of the day are awarded $500 each.
In addition, the rankest animals (wildest ride) in each of the roughstock events (determined by the judges’ scorecards) are also awarded $500; over the 10-day festival the owners of the animals participating in the three events receive
$30 000 in prize money.
Championship Stock Awards: On the final Sunday three animals, one Bareback Bronc, one Saddle Bronc and one Bull are crowned the overall Calgary Stampede Champion Bucking Stock. Each are presented a bronze trophy and the animals join a list of Champions declared since 1979.
