About Calgary Operations

In 1974, Calgary became the second home of Colt, to provide highly-qualified, multi-discipline consulting engineering services to the Calgary marketplace. As our projects became more complex, we expanded our services to include all aspects of individual projects, from

engineering design to procurement and construction. Colt Calgary has grown to include several locations in the Calgary area. Our main offices are located in the south of Calgary, with staff assigned to several customer sites in the downtown region.

Expertise and Technical Strength

The core markets served by Calgary Operations are described below:

Oil Sands, Extraction Processing

Over the past 33 years, Colt has been directly involved in the design and construction of over 800 oil sands upgrading and extraction related projects. Project involvement spans from study work all the way to the EPC of the largest scale megaprojects.

This experience covers every aspect of oil sands mining extraction, including dry material handling, hydrotransport, extraction, froth treatment, solvent recovery and tailings technology, as well as full and partial upgrading.

Heavy Oil, Thermal and SAGD Oil Production

Colt is a world leader in the design and construction of conventional heavy oil and thermal in situ heavy oil production, processing and transportation facilities. Since our first project we have striven to take a leadership role in applying proven and new technologies to reduce

the life-cycle costs for our clients.

Our clients include small to major oil producers, pipeline transportation companies, power and cogeneration plants, and refining and upgrading facilities.

Pipelines and Facilities

From large-diameter long-distance transmission pipeline systems to small inch gathering and distribution systems, the Colt Pipeline Group has designed and managed the construction of over 40 000 km of pipeline and related facilities in Canada and internationally.

With over 400 pipeline specialists and multi-discipline personnel, the Colt Pipeline unit has the expertise and capability to work with our clients to undertake studies, provide expert input to solve problems or to execute multi-billion dollar projects.

Petroleum, Refining and Upgrading

Colt has completed numerous grassroots projects as well as additions and modifications to major refineries, upgraders and petrochemical complexes. We have in-depth knowledge of equipment process, design and layout considerations, piping systems, pumping, utility and control systems for installations of equipment assemblies.

Over the years, Colt has worked with many clients, including Imperial Oil, Petro-Canada, Shell Canada, Suncor Energy, BP, Consumers’ Co-op and Husky Energy.

Conventional Oil and Gas Production

The design and construction of conventional oil and natural gas production systems has been a core strength of Colt. We have successfully completed thousands of projects for a wide range of field production scenarios. Natural gas design flow rates have varied from small to 4 BCFD in capacity.

Oil production rates have varied from hundreds of barrels per day to over 150 000 barrels per day. We constantly strive to use the latest technologies to meet the economic and environmental challenges facing the energy industry. Our clients include independent and major multinational oil and gas producers and midstream processors.

Gas Processing

Colt has designed and constructed thousands of natural gas production and processing projects for a broad range of clients worldwide. Project design flow rates have varied from small to 4 BCFD in capacity.

We have employed a wide range of gas-processing

technologies to meet the economic and environmental challenges facing the natural gas industry. Our clients include independent and major multinational gas producers, midstream processors and pipeline transmission companies.
