Relevant Experience
Cogeneration Plant Project
Colt provided front-end development and detailed engineering and procurement services for a grassroots cogeneration facility. The facility is configured with two identical trains, each comprising a GE 7EA gas turbine generator and a once-through heat recovery steam generator. Power is generated at 13.8 kV and is stepped up to transmission voltage at 144kV and tied into the main bus that distributes power.
The construction strategy involves maximizing the amount of modularization the balance of plant common material.
Facilities include:
- Fuel gas systems and equipment
- Syngas compressor and auxiliaries
- Closed cooling glycol water system and equipment
- Compressed air system and equipment
- Utility water system and equipment
- Nitrogen system and equipment
- Heating glycol system and equipment
- Drainage and waste water system
- Fire protection system
- Plant HVAC system
- Civil, structural and buildings
- Plant electrical system, equipment and installation of the cogeneration plant up to the step-up transformers in the substation
- Plant control system
Coal-Fired Power Plant
As part of a fully-integrated team, Colt contributed to the building of a 450 MW coal-fired power plant. Colt performed the overall engineering and procurement for the balance of plant area. The scope included:
- Site preparation, including all underground servicing for major utilities, cooling water intake and outlet canals
- All construction facilities and power
- 500 kV and 138 kV switch yard extension
- Procurement of main and auxiliary transformers, medium voltage switchgear and power distribution centres
- Upgrading the water treatment plant
- Upgrading the coal dust collection system
- Distributed control system (DCS) graphics interface and plant training simulator
- All foundations for the Hitachi-supplied boiler and turbine areas, with over 1 000 piles and 50 000 cubic meters of concrete. Special foundation designs required dynamic modelling to facilitate tight vibration specifications of coal pulverizer and major rotating equipment areas

Colt was also Owner's Engineer for Hitachi contract compliance, and controls the flow of all documents to and from Hitachi Japan and the vendor. Colt has responsibility for the overall construction management for the power island and the balance of plant, including leadership of the environment, health and safety for the project.
Airport Cogeneration Facility
As Owner’s Engineer, Colt provided conceptual engineering, project management and construction management services to ensure the technical integrity, safety, cost and schedule compliance by a design/build, operate and maintain contractor. The facility consists of a 117 MW combined cycle cogeneration power plant, fully integrated with the existing CUP. Colt developed the DBM, conceptual plant layout and capital cost estimate.

Combined Cycle Power Plant
Colt developed and optimized cycle configuration for a naphtha-fired 2 x 1 General Electric LM6000 combined-cycle power plant. Included in the scope work were assistance in the environmental permitting application,
preliminary engineering and cost estimates and the preparation of EPC specifications as well as evaluation of EPC proposals.
