Project Management
Focus on Safety
Safety is always key on any project, and we place special focus on the project safety plan when the project is a revamp-type project in a working facility or major construction of grassroots facilities. During the initial phases of the project, key activities take place when both
the Divisional and Corporate Safety Managers meet with the client and project team to set out the expectations, special needs and planned approach to ensure that the project works safely with the operating facility during construction, start-up and commissioning.
Colt’s Project Management Methodology is PM 200
Colt’s success is built on our ability to consistently deliver quality to our clients, whatever the size or complexity of the project.
To ensure continued quality, Colt has developed and implemented a system that addresses all aspects of projects. Our project management manual, PM 200, is an ever-changing document, and is presented to employees
in the format best suited for the hi-tech world in which we operate – as a customized, on-line training course that engages and challenges all staff.
The manual addresses all eventualities, accountability, standards and the interdependence of key objectives and methods. It outlines plans for safety, the involvement of all personnel, cost, schedule and communication.
Project Execution Plan
The project execution plan (PEP) is an integral part of Colt’s quality system. This document provides a road map for the work to be completed. The PEP is a 'fit-for-purpose' and living document that defines the scope of services and responsibilities for all parties involved with the project. The PEP addresses the following project parameters:
- Scope of services, responsibilities of all parties and critical success factors
- Basis for progress measurement, change management and project reporting
- Work package breakdown and coding
- Safety plan
- Quality plan
- Value creation and improvement activities
- Engineering deliverables
- Project schedule
- Project control plan
- Procurement plan including strategies and quality assurance
- Construction plan including contracting strategy and constructability reviews
Site-specific PEP templates are generated and customized with client input. PEPs are generated by the Project Manager/Engineer and are reviewed by all engineering disciplines having involvement with the project.
Project Management Information Systems
SERGTM is Colt’s project management information system used in the management, planning and control of Colt-executed projects. SERGTM is an acronym for Single Entry Report Generator. The system consists of a series of integrated industry-standard and Colt-developed modules.
SERGTM is flexible and multiple-levelled in detail, allowing for effective use on a large range of project sizes and complexity. The architecture is modular, single-entry and database-linked, with a combination of real-time and batch data transmission. A full complement of standard project reports can be generated. Custom reports can also be designed.
The methodology for each element is basically the same. Information is entered into each required module and processed by a 'tool specific' to that module, and the output is used to either generate the required report or as information for other modules.
The main elements of SERGTM are:
- Scheduling (P3e/c, MS Project)
- Estimating (EES, IPM, Icarus 2000)
- Engineering Management System (EMS)
- Cost Management (CCMS)
- Materials Management (MMS)
- Construction/Contract Management(CMS)
