Pipeline Leak Detection

Demand is intensifying for accurate and reliable monitoring of pipelines. LINEGUARD™, a proprietary software system developed by Colt Technologies, has been meeting this demand since 1993. LINEGUARD™ incorporates a unique 'lumped-parameter' approach to mathematical modeling of liquid and gas pipelines, and is easy to install and tune.

For product details visit the LINEGUARD™ website.

This is leak detection you can afford to rely on. It:

  • Is intended for main lines, short lines, laterals and reversible lines
  • Easily covers intermittent and continuous operations, handling everything from single commodities to multi-product batches

Leak Detection

Pipelines are the safest method for transporting hydrocarbon fluids, compared with trucking, rail or marine transportation. Nevertheless, current North American statistics indicate that fluid petroleum pipeline leaks occur at the rate of about one leak per year per thousand miles of line. Unlike leaks that occur in aboveground transportation modes such as trucks, rail cars or ocean

tankers, pipeline leaks are typically below ground level and are not readily visible.
The costs of leaks fall into four main categories:

  • Direct cost of lost product and line downtime.
  • Environmental cleanup costs.

An Advanced Leak Detection / Location System

LINEGUARD™ – a field-proven, innovative approach to modelling the transient behavior of liquid pipelines – provides an accurate, robust, model-assisted material-balance leak detection system.

LINEGUARD™ performs as well as – or better than – expensive and exotic traditional transient models. Performance tests

and operating experience have verified the accuracy of the LINEGUARD™ model during transient linepack changes.

SCADA capability can be added for users that need to do leak detection but do not have a SCADA system.

Simulator

LINEGUARD™ Simulations is an important tool that allows us to simulate new pipeline topologies, test and debug new LINEGUARD™ system algorithms and challenge system communication issues. LINEGUARD™

Simulations is also an instrumental tool in our client presentations, providing a first look at what LINEGUARD™ can do.
