Alliances

By providing a commitment to service and quality and effective and efficient engineering capabilities, Colt has become Canada's leader in establishing and managing strategic alliances.

Our long-term relationships with many of North America's most successful corporations – including Imperial Oil Limited (ExxonMobil), Syncrude Canada Ltd., Shell Canada Limited, Talisman Energy Inc., ConocoPhillips, EPCOR and Petro-Canada – are indicative of the flexible, innovative and technology-driven performance that Colt provides to our many clients in the upstream and downstream hydrocarbon and energy industries. Most of these relationships have been operating since the early 1990's.

For major project development, Colt has a proven track record, the necessary experience, corporate resources and financial strength to use a project alliance approach. This method of project execution, in partnership with our clients and key stakeholders in the project (constructors, fabricators and key suppliers), can deliver very low capital and operating cost facilities in a challenging risk/reward environment.

Our long-term alliance relationships include:

  • Imperial Oil – upstream/downstream
  • Petro-Canada – upstream/downstream
  • Talisman – upstream projects
  • CoSyn – base plant projects
  • Shell – Scotford and Sarnia refineries
  • ConocoPhillips – upstream projects Alaska
  • EPCOR – base plant projects

Colt became Shell Canada’s engineering alliance partner in 1992.  Our mandate includes the provision of EPCM services at the Sarnia and Scotford refineries and styrene plant and the Sherwood Marketing Terminal.  To date, we have participated in over 500 projects.  Typically, our scope of work has commenced with scope-of-work definition and continued through to detailed engineering and construction management on numerous maintenance, capital and shutdown projects.

Since 1990, Colt has had a service agreement with Petro-Canada to provide engineering services for plant upgrades and modifications, on over 1 000 projects throughout the process units and utility systems at the Mississauga and Edmonton refineries.  In Calgary, upstream projects are the work of an additional Colt alliance team.

Colt has completed over 2 000 engineering and study projects for various divisions of Esso since our incorporation.  These jobs ranged in size, with several in excess of 100 000 man hours of engineering.  We currently have alliances with Esso Resources and at Nanticoke refinery.

The CoSyn Alliance is our largest and most mature long-term relationship, with over 500 integrated Alliance staff comprising Colt and Syncrude personnel.
