Colt’s Quality Management System (QMS)
In today’s business world, Colt realizes that to continue to grow we must provide value-added service to our clients through constant review and ongoing raising of standards, to ensure that our employees strive to uphold Colt’s vision.
From the Quality Policy down through to individual work instructions, standard forms and guidelines, the total Quality Management System focuses on five key principles:
- To provide safe, reliable work
- To ensure that all work is correct and complete
- To complete all projects on or ahead of schedule
- To complete all projects on or below budget
- To satisfy customer expectations
Each division of Colt has been ISO 9001-2000 certified and is accountable to the company’s Corporate Quality Council by providing updates and status at quarterly Corporate Quality Council meetings. The Corporate Quality Council is responsible for developing and monitoring corporate standards, programs and best practices to help the company improve and grow.
At the beginning of projects, Colt also sets in place key performance indicators (KPIs) or benchmarks to measure and evaluate the project’s performance, which can be done either throughout the project at set intervals or, as a minimum, upon completion of the project. In the case of long-term preferred relationship type arrangements, the KPIs are reviewed annually.
Colt’s Quality Management System starts at the top with the Vision Statement and then flows into the Quality Policy, Quality Manual, Mandatory Procedures and Non-Mandatory Guidelines. The Quality Manual is a key document that links the procedures and “how Colt does
business on a daily basis” with the requirements of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The Colt Quality Pyramid shows the sections of the total Colt Quality Management System - from the vision through to guidelines on how to complete tasks, including standard forms and tools that may be used during project work.

Colt Engineering has a series of mandatory procedures that apply to all projects executed at Colt. For clients who have their own sets of standards, our program has the flexibility to adapt a “fit-for-purpose” approach. This allows the projects to support client requirements while still meeting the minimum components of Colt’s quality system.
