This project used WorleyParsons’ EcoNomics™ processes to provide a fully monetized assessment of financial, social and environmental aspects.

WorleyParsons was engaged to undertake a lifecycle cost analysis of various water supply options for the provision of a secure supply for Greater Adelaide, in South Australia, until 2050 and an expected population of around 2 million.

The assessment covered a diverse range of water supply, storage and demand management options ranging from water recycling (including 60 GL/a stormwater recycling), a $1.83 million desalination project, and increasing storage capacity through to the purchase of water and demand management options seeking to reduce consumption by 50 GL/a.

The key requirement of the assessment was to ensure selected options deliver positive long term sustainable benefits to the community and the environment. The outcomes of the study were adopted and the success of the study was recognized by the South Australian Commissioner for Water Security.
