Horizontal drilling under an environmentally sensitive river was required to route a pipeline from a producing gas well to a plant. Trenching the river was not an option.

WorleyParsons provided a hydraulic risk analysis and hydraulic design recommendations, followed by a geophysical investigation, including electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), seismic refraction, and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys.

A geotechnical borehole program confirmed the geophysical interpretations. This data informed drilling contractors of the thickness of overburden, the lithology of the overburden and the bedrock, and whether or not the bedrock was fractured, contributing to a successful horizontal drilling program.
