Dubai’s prestigious World Trade Centre was the venue for a WorleyParsons sponsored international ports and terminals conference.
The focus of the three-day event, attended by scores of top industry leaders, including ship, port, transport, cargo owner and finance stakeholder groups as well as experts and government officials, was on some of the key areas shaping the logistics, transport and port services to and from the Middle East markets.
In his presentation to the conference, Larry Shughart, Global Lead for Transportation, WorleyParsons, explored the issue of whether enough landside access for ports was being developed to match the growth in trade, as well the role of business process, communication and technology in promoting efficiency.
He said “Ports are gateways not destinations. The way forward for the region’s congested ports and terminal sector is through delivering more fluid landside access.
“Many port projects are internally focused, when improvements to road and rail interfaces and corridor infrastructure could be the answer.”
