The Ohio Air Quality Development Authority (OAQDA) approved a grant to WorleyParsons to assist the state in determining site(s) in the state for the FutureGen project, a $1 billion power plant which has been proposed by the United States Department of Energy.
FutureGen will be the nation's first near-zero-pollution power plant. The proposed 275 MW plant will use coal as its fuel and produce hydrogen for use as a clean fuel source. The ability to store large amounts of carbon dioxide deep underground, rather than emitting it into the air is also part of the program.
Mark R. Shanahan, OAQDA Executive Director said, "WorleyParsons is an ideal choice for the task of helping us find the best site, or sites, in Ohio for FutureGen. They understand how to identify, at a very early stage, any flaws that would deem a site as unsuitable for a project of this magnitude. Their professional guidance will help assure we make the best possible decision for Ohio.”
