The traineeship programme offered in Australia is tailored for individuals looking to embark on a career within the design profession.
Programme Duration
The programme runs typically for three years, depending on your development, experience or qualifications prior to their entry.
In order to join the program you should have Year 12 results (or equivalent) and currently be attending TAFE, enrolled in a relevant course (Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Certificate III or Certificate IV in Engineering), and will fit one of the following types:
- School Leavers following completion of Year 12 schooling but with no relevant work experience, whose qualifications meet TAFE entrance requirements (including English and a mathematically-based subject)
- Mature age workers with no relevant work experience and no TAFE qualifications
- Mature age workers with a trade certificate, Certificate of Engineering or recognised trade qualification
- Personnel who have gained a relevant TAFE qualification but have no work experience. This group may continue with their studies to complete an Advanced Diploma or other components of the DTDP
By the end of the programme, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of intelligent 3D CAD design systems, such as Autoplant, Plant Design System (PDS) and Plant Design Management System (PDMS), as well as commonly used office software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Produce customer deliverables, such as 2D drawings, in Autocad and Microstration
- Demonstrate knowledge of:
- company, customer, local and international standards
- the company’s Engineering Management System, work processes and design practices
- document control and filing systems
- ergonomic requirements in design
- design requirements associated with Fabrication and Installation methods
- Work within the provisions and guidelines of the company’s quality assurance systems
- Interface with other design groups and understand associated disciplines’ responsibilities and work practices
- Produce work in line with industry best practices and within deadlines and budgeted hours
- Adopt safe work practices, and follow Health, Safety & Environmental procedures
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills by developing effective internal relationships with other design disciplines and business units
- Attain the qualification of Diploma or Advanced Diploma through TAFE
